Sister Irène Cormier, ndsc, in religion Sr. Marie-Joanne, of Maison-mère des Religieuses Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur, Moncton, passed away following a short illness on Tuesday April 25, 2017 at the convent. She resided in Résidence Ste-Hélène in Dieppe.
She was 83 years old and in her 64th year of her religious life. Born December 26, 1933 in Dieppe, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Sara (Séraphine) (Richard) Cormier.
Besides her religious family, she is survived by one sister, Zella Landry (late Gérald) of Dieppe; four brothers, Emery (Doris) of Moncton, Armand "Herman" (Aurélia) and Richard (Roseline), both of Dieppe, and Claude (Claudette) of New Hampshire; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Norma; two brothers: Gérald and Aldérice.
Sister Cormier will be resting at the Notre-Dame-d’Acadie Pavilion of the Maison-mère, 125 King Street, Moncton (Godfrey Lane entrance) on Wednesday from 2 to 8:30 pm and on Thursday from 9 am until the funeral mass. Solemn Vespers will be held on Wednesday evening at 7 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday April 27 in the Maison-mère chapel at 10 am. Interment will be in Memramcook. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (858-1900).
