It is with great sadness that the family of Alfreda Melanson announces her passing which occurred on April 22nd, 2017 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. Born on July 2nd, 1944 in Scoudouc, she was the daughter of the late Emile and Zila (LeBlanc) Melanson.
Alfreda loved life and over the years enjoyed being a caregiver to many. She was also a member of the Golden Age Club, and volunteered regularly at the Residence O Bon Soins. She led an active lifestyle; played volleyball well into her 60's, enjoyed her daily walks and playing cards with her many friends. Alfreda loved the Toronto Blue Jays and never missed a game on TV. The highlight was when she got the opportunity to travel to Toronto to see her favorite team in person for her 70th birthday.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Aldei "Sunny"; two children: Lisa Boudreau (Gerald) and Steven (Darlene); two precious granddaughters; Josée and Chantal; six sisters: Mathilda Gautreau (late Paul), Zita Bourque (Ulysse), Yvonne Cormier (Donald), Lucille Bourgeois (Leo-Paul), Irma Melanson (Donald) and Berthe Fagan (Edvin), many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters: Jeannine Cormier, Geraldine Gaudet and Claudette Pellerin; four brothers: Evariste Melanson, Roger Melanson, Clarence Melanson and Father Irois Melanson CSC.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and staff at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC for their compassion and professionalism. A special thank you to Monique Gagnon and the Extra-Mural team for the excellent care given to Alfreda during her illness.
In keeping with Alfreda's wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the St-Jacques-le-Majeur Church Fund of Scoudouc.
