Bonita Ti Chan, 87, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. Born on December 12, 1929 in Hoi Ping, Guangzhou, China, she was the daughter of the late Frank N. Woo and Fung Mei Wong.
Bonita immigrated to Canada in the late 1960s to join her late husband Henry Chan who immigrated to Canada a few years earlier. Both of them originally settled down in Saint John, N.B., then later moved to Sussex in the early 1970s to open Henry’s Restaurant, the first Chinese restaurant in the town. Bonita loved to socialize with customers and often provided treats to children. You would always see her welcoming smile and hear her laughter throughout the restaurant.
After their retirement, Bonita and Henry settled in Moncton. Both enjoyed travelling and visiting their children in Vancouver, Toronto, Moncton and Saint John. Bonita took good care of Henry until he passed away in 2012. She was hospitalized due to old age in her final year but remained positive until her passing.
Bonita is a Christian and reaffirmed her faith to accept Jesus as her personal Saviour. She enjoyed watching TV, talking to her sons, daughter, and grandchildren, and took comfort interacting with her great-grandsons.
Bonita is survived by one daughter: Shirley Mak (David); five sons: Truman (Lin Feng), John, William (Rose Mary), Richard (Elisa) and Patrick (Anna); nine grandchildren: Minnie, Clarissa, Kenneth, Peter, James, Jason (Jessica), Victor, Michael and Jessica; three great-grandsons: Mason, Cameron and Parker.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Henry, and one grandson, Michael.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) from where the funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday February 15 at 11 am. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 9 am until time of funeral. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
