Diane Delaney, 73, of Moncton, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday January 28, 2017. Born September 15, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Austin and Marie (LeBlanc) Delaney.
She is survived by one sister, Susan Carey (Norman Strickland) of Moncton; two brothers: Paul of Moncton and Roger (Sheila) of Thunder Bay, ON; four nieces and nephews: Christopher, Michelle, Melissa, and Michael; three grandnieces and grandnephews: Brandon, Kaitlyn, and Finn; as well as many cousins and friends.
She had worked in Boston for fifty years, latterly in tourism
After a rather turbulent youth, Diane had developed into a very warm, loving and compassionate person, generous to a fault. Almost the last thing she did was send money to someone in need. She was a loyal and supportive friend. Not made in any standard mould, she was a unique personality. She could at times be quirky and eccentric, but she was also funny and very good company. She was well-read, well-spoken and very knowledgeable about things that interested her. Over the years, she had learnt a great deal about art and antiques, and acquired skill at repairing, refinishing and reupholstering furniture. She had an eye for beauty and quality, and, since she had to be careful with money, was adept at finding the best sales. She had a wonderfully positive attitude to life. Since returning from Boston to live in Moncton three years ago, she had created for herself a beautiful home, exquisitely decorated, full of things that she loved, her own mixture of modern and antique. She loved her neighbourhood. She adored her dog Charlie, whose little ways would constantly charm her and make her laugh. For all these things, she thanked God, and she often said to friends: ‘I am so happy that I want to pinch myself to make sure it is true.’ It all ended too suddenly, too soon.
By request, there will be no visitation. The funeral service will be celebrated at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) Friday February 3 at 1:30 pm followed by a reception. Interment will be in St. Paul’s cemetery, Summerside, PEI. In memory of Diane, a contribution to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
