Sister Antoinette Audet, in religion Sister St. Joseph Maria, Fille de Jésus, passed away on Monday November 28, 2016 at the Monarch Hall Nursing Home, Riverview, N.B. She was 87 years old and had celebrated 67 years of religious life. Born in Dundee, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Essiembre (Audet).

Besides her religious family, she leaves to mourn her sisters: Sr. Jeanne-Aimée, (Fille de Jésus), Fernande Leclair (Hector), Anne-Marie Savoie (Julien), and Andréa Morris (late Marcel); her brother Gilles (Rita), as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters: Léonie, Velma and Francine (late Pierre Savoie); her brothers: Father Armel and Guy.

Nurse by profession, Antoinette first devoted herself in Nova Scotia, serving the sick at the Cheticamp Hospital and then as Director of the Seniors’ Home in Sydney. She then took time to prepare for her mission in the West Indies. There, she worked for six years at the Nevis Hospital and 19 years in Haiti where she assumed responsibility for a dispensary, practiced midwifery, replaced the doctor when needed and trained young women as nursing assistants. In 1998 she returned to Dalhousie and in 2006 she came to live her retirement in Moncton and then in Riverview.

Her remains will be resting at the Maison-Mère des Religieuses Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur, 125 King St., Moncton (Godfrey Lane entrance) where the funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday December 1 at 2:30 pm. Visiting hours are from 1 pm until the time of funeral. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe. Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (858-1900).
