
Sister Céline Poirier, in religion Sister Marie-Ludger-du-Sacré-Coeur, Fille de Jésus, of Royal Court in Riverview, passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2016 at the Moncton Hospital. She was 85 years old and had celebrated 67 years of religious life. Born in Dalhousie, N.-B., Céline was the daughter of the late Ludger Poirier and Josephine Grenier as well as of the late Louis Gauvreau, her step- father.
Besides her religious family, she leaves to mourn her two sisters: Hilda Gagnon (Roger) and Denise Nichols (Louis); her second Gauvreau family as well as many nephews and nieces whom she loved very much.
She was predeceased by her brother Rhéal in 1989 and her sister Marielle in 2011.
Céline was a teacher at Cap-de-la-Madeleine, New Carlisle and in Honduras. From 1976 to 1982 she was Provincial superior of our Latin America/Antilles province, and from 1990 to 1997 Provincial superior of the Antilles province. In 2003 she returned to Canada definitively and retired at Riverview in 2014. In February 2016 she resumed her battle with cancer and on November 8 she left us for the Father’s home. Céline was a generous person totally dedicated to her mission.
Her remains will be resting at the Maison-mère des Religieuses Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur, 125 King Street, Moncton (Godfrey Lane entrance) from where the funeral mass will be celebrated in their chapel on Monday November 14 at 2:30 pm. Visiting hours are Monday from 1 pm until time of funeral. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
