George Gallant, 87, of the Villa Providence, Shediac and formerly of Cap-Pelé, passed away on March 1st, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 4th, 1928 in Shediac, he was the son of the late Ernest and Florence (Smiley) Gallant.
Prior to his retirement, George worked for CNR as a pipe fitter and welder for 30 years. He was a member of the CN Pensioners Association and former member of the Golden Age Club in Cap-Pelé.
George was inducted in the N.B. Sports Hall of Fame, Moncton Wall of Fame, Shediac Wall of Fame and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Léontine Gallant; three daughters: Janice Mazerolle (Dave) of Bouctouche, Janine Gallant (Kevin Black) of Moncton and Claire Gallant (Hubert) of Cap-Pelé; two sons: Gordon (Gisèle) of Cap-Pelé and Daniel (Doreen) of Bouctouche; three sisters: Marceline Boyce, Béatrice Landry (Alphée) and Linda Bowden (Charlie); seven brothers: Rodney, Alexandre, Rodrigue (Ed), Donald, Gordon, Gary (Koko) and Leslie (Claudette Bourque); seven grandchildren: Michel, Chantal, Jason, Danis, Danik, Jonathan and Steven; five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by a sister, Juliette; three brothers: Allan, Butch and Arthur; three grandsons: Jocelin, Daniel and Denis.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 396 Main Street, Shediac (506-532-3297) Friday, March 4th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and Saturday from 9:30 am until time of departure (10:45). The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph R. C. Church, 415 Main Street, Shediac on Saturday, March 5th at 11 am.
