My sincerest condolences. My father (Lloyd Boucher) consulted Stephen for genealogy help many times throughout his life. I remember a family trip to Moncton where Stephen gave us a tour of U de M, he was very giving with his time and knowledge. The Acadian community will miss him dearly but I'm sure my dad has already found him up in heaven and is pestering him with more questions. My prayers are with your family. 💜

I met Steve in Boston in the 1970s and he taught me how to research. It is devastating to hear of his passing. He was a kind, generous man who will be greatly missed.

— George Richard

Stephen was such a quiet gentelman but he touched many by even just by his presence every Sunday. I have many fond memories of our wee chats epecially following Mass... as he was not 'outgoing' I tried to make A point of trying to touch base. I know he loved St Brrnard.s and the impacted the lives of some patishooners and neightbors yoo. He was always so mimmculately dressed and even one day I reached to him and and touched his tie he told me he needed to be ready & repevctful for Mass.Quiet and unassuming, a gentleman all the way and all the time God bless him you as well

In 2010 my wife Rita and I spent 5 hours with Stephen at Moncton University while we were on a trip from Tempe, Arizona USA retracing my ancestors migration to Arizona. Stephen spent those 5 hours telling me my family's ancestry and journey from France to the new world in Nova Scotia. He told us about how Pierre dit Perroche Hebert and his eldest sons were separated from his wife, young sons, daughters, and his father during the great upheaval. He shared at least 5 generations of my Hebert family history from memory. He was an amazing man and I Love him and will miss him very much. Rest in peace my friend Stephen.
Lots of Love,
Terry Abair

Our condolences to Mr. White's immediate family and to all who relied on his research to get us started in the right direction to discover our ancestry. So many people are indebted to him. Many Louisianians have discovered "cousins" because of his work. Lafourche Heritage Society, Thibodaux-Loudun Twinning Association, and others are grateful for his contributions to the culture.

What a great loss. Steve helped me complete a ten + generation fan chart, and we helped each other with so much genealogical work for more than 50 years. We became good friends. His instantaneous memory of all Acadian families will be a great loss to all Acadian researchers. I will miss him.

Please send my condolences to Stephen’s family and friends. I was really upset when I saw Stephen White had passed. It seemed like I guess, he would always be there for us, at the University, searching files - it must have been a hard job, but he did it very well. I was in around his office, researching info on my great grand-mother. I went in to his office, and told him, I was at a dead-end. He came out, checked a few binders, and cards, and he said. “Ah!,, but there’s a Twist” I turned to look at him surprised…He said ‘She got married again!”. Wow, did that ever surprise me. He was such a smart man, dedicated, and really, really made a difference for a lot of people, and Acadians, les Acadiens, and I am one of them,,,he sure made a difference for me when he found that information! Was I ever surprised. A very good man. Very sorry for your loss, ..Linda

Very sorry to just find out that Stephen had passed away. He was the last resort for all types of inquires regarding
our Acadian ancestors. I had the pleasure of meeting him at his office and have him sign the copies of his dictionaire that I had purchased. We had a few chats along the way and he always had a timely reply for my many emails. It was a privilege to know him, and a special thank you to all the staff that assisted him. Don bennett.
